A cooperation between the MAK and the Vienna Business Agency.
#wiegehtveränderung
The CityFactory is a real-time research lab for new fields of work in the creative economy, which focuses on discovering and visualizing future urban opportunities in Vienna. In cooperation with the IDRV– Institute of Design Research Vienna and the Vienna Business Agency, under the hashtag #wiegehtveränderung [How does change work] it aims to identify sustainably proactive pioneers for positive change and give them a voice. The format foregrounds networking and activating Vienna’s creative scene, as well as fostering interdisciplinary exchange.
The focus is not so much on merely describing or presenting projects that have already been completed (and are no longer accessible) but rather on visualizing strategies and tools that facilitate change. What is important is how already proven strategies and projects can be used for future interventions. What can we learn from them? How can we create a foundation that allows as many people as possible to participate and be motivated? And above all, how does change work?
Recipes for change
“Recipes” or “implementation potentials” for change in the City of Vienna will be distilled from exemplary best practice projects and processed accordingly. Of prime importance are the various means and (cooperation) strategies by which, with whom, and to what degree the projects were realized in Vienna.
In the framework of a workshop, a group of designers working with resilience researcher Harald Katzmair will identify and highlight points of leverage at which pressure should be applied to initiate sustainable change. The workshop will focus on the way the city’s different potentials mutually influence each other and on the roles that creative professionals can play in ultimately bringing about change.
Motivating, activating, and pooling incentives
The intention is thereby to create a snowball effect that will activate, motivate and network the Viennese creative scene from within, highlighting the (diverse) means by which it is possible to change existing systems and showing how people can participate in this process themselves. For the “recipes for (positive) change” are designed to motivate people to initiate projects in the city themselves and make change possible, even on a viably small scale.
