Special Archive Design Pioneers

Gregor Eichinger

Gregor Eichinger is one of the most fascinating and forward-looking Austrian architects and designers who keeps pushing, or leaving behind, the established boundaries of architecture in search of new aesthetic experiences. In a contemporary sense, he is out for conceptual solutions which he consistently carries through.

The Special Archive plans to document and research his visionary approach, including in particular his unrealized projects.

Peter Noever

In a first pilot segment, published and unpublished texts by design thinker Peter Noever were compiled in a source archive encompassing his work as a museosopher, designer, architect, and media interventionist.

This body of texts also provides the basis for the monographic publication of Noever’s key texts, “Peter Noever, Chronisch Obsessiv – Die Gegenwart muss erst erkämpft werden. Schriften und Interviews”, edited by Gabriel Ramin Schor (Verlag für moderne Kunst, Nuremberg , 2008), and a web portal which is continuously being updated.

Helmut Lang

Helmut Lang is considered the fashion pioneer of the 1990s. With his extreme minimalism, he had a trend-setting influence on the international scene and developed new media strategies.

As the only institution worldwide, the MAK will receive the pre-mortem estate of Helmut Lang, the full body of documentation material (design drawings, look books, videos, advertisements) as well as a substantial selection of key works from the Helmut Lang Ready to Wear collections. This source material will provide the basis for the MAK’s Helmut Lang Special Archive. Scheduled project start date: 2011.

Carol Christian Poell

Carol Christian Poell is one of the most important exponents of subversive and socially critical contemporary fashion art. His central concern is to rejuvenate traditional craftsmanship through cutting-edge innovative material and process technologies.

The objective of this Special Archive is research of his techniques and strategies. An analogue CCP source archive was started in 2002. A web-based research portal for the project team of scholars, for experts in the field and for the general public is continuously being updated and expanded.
