The heirs of Emma Budge who died on 14 February 1937 were persecuted as Jews by the Nazi regime. The auctioning of Emma Budge’s extensive collection took place under duress, neither the executer of the state nor the heirs were ever able to dispose of the proceeds from the auction. At the auction at Paul Graupe’s in Berlin on 4 to 6 October 1937, collector Ernst Böhm purchased a pompous lidded vase from the Budge collection. Ernst and Emmi Böhm bequeathed their collection and with it also the pompous lidded vase to the MAK.
