ART NOUVEAU WORLD DAY was launched in 2013 to commemorate the day when the architects Antoni Gaudí and Ödön Lechner died. Museums and organizations across Europe contribute exhibitions, photography competitions, symposia, and readings to this international event. In the MAK, ART NOUVEAU WORLD DAY 2018 reflects the spirit of the architect Otto Wagner, the 100th anniversary of whose death is celebrated this year. Special guided tours through the exhibition POST OTTO WAGNER: From the Postal Savings Bank to Post-Modernism,  a visit to the Austrian Postal Savings Bank, and an architecture walk through Vienna allow visitors to get to know Wagner’s work more closely.Art nouveau and its artistic creations are firmly established in the history of the MAK collection. Artists like Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann, and Koloman Moser played a crucial part in forming the character of the collections. From furniture and works in metal and ceramic to drawing, their artistic oeuvres permeate all aspects of the MAK Collection: a diversity in which the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk or total work of art becomes manifest and tangible for visitors to the museum.Guided Tours on ART NOUVEAU WORLD DAYAdmission and all guided tours on this day are free of charge!Sun, 10.06.2018, 10:15–11:30 amPOST-OTTO WAGNER: From the Postal Savings Bank to PostmodernismDialogue tour through the exhibition with Iris Meder, expert advisor to the exhibition Sun, 10.06.2018, 11:00 am–12:30 pm MAK4FAMILYThis time Otto lies in the detailWorkshop for the whole family (ages 4+)Otto Wagner was a brilliant architect who thought not only about the big picture, but also about the smallest parts: handrails, table legs, door handles, and even warm-air blowers—every detail needs attention.
