Laozi (Lao-Tze) in the Tyrolean mountains—this is the fictional scenario that visual artist and author Harald Gsaller, who
was born in Tyrol, presents in his MAK lecture SHOU_LONGEVITY. He does so using images and texts relating to the Taoist form
of meditation Zuowang (sitting forgetting), which hails from the Tang period.
For Gsaller, an artist’s lecture, a subgenre of the lecture performance, is characterized by a dense relation, the responsivity
of voice and body to texts and visuals that the artist has created about the lecture topic.
Harald Gsaller (b. 1960) is a visual artist and author and lives in Vienna.
