Manfred Wakolbinger seeks the adventure of three-dimensionality, exploring his personal relationship to the physical world in his work. For Wakolbinger, this confrontation centers on the attempt to develop communication through sculpture. Every step in the development of his work is inspired by the continuing examination and reflection of the performative potential of sculpture and the force of elementary forms.

At the MAK, Wakolbinger presents a new group of works under the title of "Bottomtime" which indicates an expansion of his artistic vocabulary. "Bottomtime" is a galaxy of time and space, a universe of silence, an "underwater world" that the viewer is invited to immerse in - pictures from a world of floating, of falling without ever hitting the ground, pictures from the living space of beings that appear alien though they have been in this world for quite some time. Manfred Wakolbinger divides and transforms the MAK Gallery in a dark zone with a running slide show, and a light zone, enlivened by photographs.
