A cooperation between sound:frame and MAK

This cooperation with the sound:frame festival marks the first time that the MAK presents audiovisual art as a special segment of applied art. In the sixth year of its existence, the festival has become well-established in Austria, and-with an exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York in late 2009, an appearance at the Austrian Pavilion of the 2010 EXPO in Shanghai, or numerous cooperation projects with festivals all over Europe-also has made a name for itself internationally. The name "sound:frame" stands for the combination of music and (moving) image. By bringing together different genres, the festival which, aside from audiovision, also assembles architecture, design, literature, or classical music in one program, has steadily gained in importance.

The exhibition «substructions» examines conditions of present-day audiovisual production. Topics like cultural industry, the precariat, or sustainability will be scrutinized in the light of the "festival" system and put up for discussion in an exhibition and conference. For the first time, artistic works have to conform to a technical base structure while nevertheless being free in content. Thus 2012 puts the focus on the structures underlying audiovisual trends.
