Scans up to size A2 free of charge

200,000 volumes on art, design, applied art, new media and contemporary art, some 3,700 magazines, 400,000 drawings of various kinds (hand drawings, graphic works, posters, photographs) and the world’s oldest archive of files on applied art are all available via the Reading Room. With this collection, the MAK Library and the Works on Paper Collection belong to the most significant institutions of its kind in Europe. Large parts of the collection can be accessed online at the MAK Collection online.

Designed in 1993 by Ursula Aichwalder and Hermann Strobl, the reading shelves section of the reading room offers a variety of current issues of specialized magazines, encyclopedias, reference works as well as art and travel guides. New releases and literature on current exhibition themes are available.

Scans from MAK publications and magazines after 1930 are free of charge. Color photocopies and photographs can be ordered. Preordered books are supplied from the stacks. Scientific information service is available.

The MAK Library and Works on Paper Collection is one of the largest and oldest museum libraries with a focus on applied art. MAK Center Artists and Architects-in-Residence Program
The Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture of the Republic of Austria in cooperation with the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art, Vienna, annually awards a total of eight scholarships for residency at the Mackey Apartments, Los Angeles. These scholarships are open to free-lance artists, advanced students of architecture ("2. Studienabschnitt"), and graduates of architecture immediately after completion of their degree.

MAK Branch Geymüllerschlössel

Past and Present in Dialog
At the Geymüllerschlössel, a jewel of Biedermeier architecture in Vienna’s Pötzleinsdorf neighborhood, the MAK shows furniture from the Empire and Biedermeier periods, old Viennese clocks from the collection of Franz Sobek, and interventions by contemporary artists and designers.
