ADMISSION€ 15 / € 12 reduced / Free Admission for children and teens under 19 / More“Would you rather have things right or make the right things?” “Do you look for economic turnover or ecological overturn?” These and many other questions and stimulating ideas, such as “Take something apart and put it back together!” or “Form an exchange society!” are to be found in the Notebook for Change, that came into being in the framework of this year’s cooperation between the MAK and the Vienna Business Agency that, in cooperation with the IDRV– Institute of Design Research Vienna, has been researching into new tools and strategies to facilitate change. The Notebook’s design and realisation are the work of the Viennese graphic art team LWZ (short for “Linke Wienzeile”—a street in Vienna); the team has also prepared further delights for the book users via the ARTIVIVE app. The theoretical foundations for the CityFactory 2018: #wiegehtveränderung project and the highly entertaining interactive Notebook were laid in the first half of the year in a workshop conducted by resilientologist Harald Katzmair. Using algorithmic questionnaires, a highly motivated group of participants from the worlds of design, fashion, culture, research, and the creative economy identified those points of leverage at which pressure must be applied in order to initiate sustainable change. In doing so, the diverse, mutually interactive challenges of a city such as Vienna—openness paired with security, social and economic justice, work and digitalization (to include the new roles of design), inclusive and participative strategies, a holistic approach to production and consumption, social-political activism, etc.—were networked and evaluated. The Notebook is both the result of this project and the tool for continuing it. A book to be shared, it aims to encourage cooperation to bring about change in Vienna and embolden people to think of new ways of doing things—to try out alternatives outside of pre-existing structures. Through the questions the Notebook asks and the strategies it proposes, a kind of creative obstacle course is generated. There is no correct answer: the process is here the goal.At this event, the results of CityFactory 2018—a notebook for (positive) change—will be presented. The Notebook for Change aims to motivate its users to think up and put into practice their own original ideas for a sustainable, livable city. The book is intended to be used, passed on, and shared—so that we can learn from each other.Admission € 5Facebook Event >>>CityFactoryThe CityFactory has existed since 2016 as a real-time research lab for new fields of work in the creative economy, focusing on discovering and visualizing future urban opportunities in Vienna.
