A series of talks organized by the MAK in the context of the exhibition AESTHETICS OF CHANGE: 150 Years of the University of Applied Arts Vienna as part of the MAK FUTURE LAB
The exhibition AESTHETICS OF CHANGE: 150 Years of the University of Applied Arts Vienna casts a glance back onto 150 years of the University’s history, while at the same time daring to look into the future. It outlines theses for the future and advocates for a reorientation of education, art, and society. The exhibition focuses on current and visionary research, in addition to contemporary artistic positions.
The results of recent research in the field of molecular biology already make it possible to manipulate gene chains using simple techniques. This has momentous consequences for defining the limits of human existence.
Keynote followed by a panel discussion
Peter Kampits, Philosopher and Member of the Bioethics Commission at the Federal Chancellery of Austria
Mona Singer, Philosopher of Science and Technology, University of Vienna
Alfred Vendl, Prof. (emer.) of Technical Chemistry – Art & Science Visualization, University of Applied Arts Vienna

Admission: Tuesday 6–10 p.m. € 5
The MAK FUTURE LAB is a creative laboratory founded by the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art. Through workshops, lectures,
panel discussions, and other formats the MAK FUTURE LAB generates interdisciplinary contributions to a humane shaping and
utilization of Digital Modernity. It positions design, architecture, and fine art as driving forces of socially, ecologically,
culturally, and economically sustainable market economy models. Through diverse cooperations, it networks these creative sectors
with the fields of science, research, business, and politics. The MAK FUTURE LAB aspires to develop both holistic orientation
models and strategies for the commons inspired by such models, as well as concrete, innovative business ideas for the future.
