Kashmir at the MAK
Pashmina Shawls and Their European Counterparts
01.06.2005 - 02.10.2005
MAK Textiles Study Collection

The MAK possesses an important collection of Kashmir shawls: “genuine” ones made in India in the 18th and 19th centuries as well as shawls produced in Europe according to Indian models. The exhibition provides an overview of a variety of shawls, whose patterns transport the observer into a rich world of forms – from the traditionally designed end borders characteristic of the originals to the larger ornamental patterns popular in France and England and the equally enchanting Viennese patterns.
