Rudolf Bittmann was persecuted by the NS regime as a Jew and was forced to sell, among other things, his art collection. The objects were auctioned by the art auction house Adolf Weinmüller Vienna at an auction from 8 to 10 December 1938. At this auction, the MAK purchased three glasses from the Bittmann collection.
On 8 October 2013, the Art Advisory Board advocated the restitution of the three glasses.
The restitution was effected on 9 July 2014.
