After March 1938, Alice Stein was persecuted as a Jew by the Nazi regime. In preparation of their escape from Vienna, Alice Stein and her sons filed for three export permissions with the Central Office for Monument Preservation on 10 October 1938. On 11 October 1938, Alice Stein “donated” a porcelain group to the MAK and on 12 October 1938, the Central Office for Monument Preservation granted the three export permissions.
On 17 April 2015, the Advisory Board recommended the restitution of the group of porcelains.
