In this tour we take a close look at one of our collection’s highlights: Gustav Klimt’s meter-long design drawing for his Palais Stoclet mosaic. The creation of this wall mosaic can be marvelously reconstructed by means of this detailed work, for besides data on materials it also provides an abundance of notes for the Wiener Werkstätte craftspeople who completed it. Even though the original in Brussels still remains inaccessible to the public, the tour includes many additional insights and narratives that recall the Stoclet family’s life of luxury surrounded by this revolutionary total work of art.
