PROGRAM AT THE MAK

5 p.m.
Research on and Conservation of the Khevenhüller Chronicle
Keynote by Kathrin Pokorny-Nagel, Head of the Library and Works on Paper Collection
Lecture by Beate Murr, Conservation, and Tabea Harney, Academy of Fine Arts
MAK Library
Registration

The Khevenhüller Chronicle was commissioned by Count Franz Christoph von Khevenhüller and written around 1620 by Georgius Moshamer. In 1937, it became part of the MAK’s inventory. After a keynote by Kathrin Pokorny-Nagel, Head of the Library and Works on Paper Collection, Beate Murr, Conservation, and Tabea Harney, Academy of Fine Arts, will present the concept for research on and conservation and digitalization of the Chronicle in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Due to complex damage and in order to correctly interpret phases of revisions, a close cooperation between experts for specific problems and for natural scientific analyses is essential. Only a concept designed in a holistic and interdisciplinary way will do the cultural-historical value of the Khevenhüller Chronicle justice.

A cooperation between MAK Vienna and Burg Hochosterwitz

MISSING LINK
Artistic Research on Cities, Architecture, and People
With cross-border and interdisciplinary projects, the architecture group Missing Link searched for missing links between people, architecture, urbanity, art, and social fabric in the 1970s and expanded the repertoire of architecture with experimental concepts. Media analyses and research projects are an essential aspect of the oeuvre created by Missing Link. We gain an impression how creative media, room for thought, and artistic perspectives help us explore the invisible and hidden structure of constructed cohabitation.

5 p.m.–7 p.m.
MAK Design Kids
Expedition: Who and What is Behind It?
Workshop for children ages 8 to 12 (with or without accompanying person)
Registration

Borrowing from the performative action for school children by Missing Link in the 1970s, we enter on a creative expedition behind the hidden structure of cities, streets, and museums. In a workshop, we draw the discoveries and analyses we made together and pave the path for thinking visionary and young alternatives for the 21st century.

6 p.m.
Tour in Dialogue
with Otto Kapfinger, architect and co-founder of the Missing Link architecture group
Meeting point: MAK Columned Main Hall
Registration

We talk about the aspect of artistic research as one of the most important phenomena of Austria’s avant-garde art and architecture scene in the 1970s. How can artistic approaches expand research, which entryways do artistic media open for research, and how can the artistic perspective raise new questions, and make visible what is invisible?
