The MAK Library and Works on Paper Collection possesses 17 424 ornamental prints and templates from the 15th to 18th centuries. These were systematically collated into a databank over 15 years ago. A self-contained inventory, the collection enjoys international monopoly status and is to this day an indispensable resource for research into the history of ornamentation. To ensure optimum continuing support for such work, a research project is planned to scrutinize, correct, and supplement these data by incorporating the latest research in the field. The aim is to rekindle awareness of ornamental prints as an important aspect of design history past and present.
