And the equally multifaceted and momentous output of this period’s artisans and designers is the focus of this guided tour. Functionalist BratislavaThe creation of the democratic Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 significantly changed Pressburg’s appearance. Not only was the city’s name changed to Bratislava; a massive building program in the New Construction style was also initiated. Modern shopping centers with gigantic display windows, unpretentiously elegant bank buildings, functionalist hospitals and residential buildings, not to mention a modernist orthodox synagogue, characterize this new Bratislava to this day. The guided tour through the center of Bratislava focuses precisely on this modernist architecture of the interwar years. Have No Fear of Modernism! Tour of the MAK
The fascinatingly complex cultural epoch denoted by the term “Vienna 1900” has long been the stuff of legend. And the equally multifaceted and momentous output of this period’s artisans and designers is the focus of this guided tour.

Functionalist Bratislava
The creation of the democratic Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 significantly changed Pressburg’s appearance.
