COD.ACT: πTON (Installation Performance)

in Kooperation mit Wien Modern

The sound installation πTon arose out of an experiment concerning the relationship between the distortion of elastic structures and the real- time synthesis of a human voice. A long rubber tube closed into a loop is animated by being twisted and contorted as if it were an invertebrate creature. Surrounded by four human beings holding loudspeakers, the “creature” appears to be trying unsuccessfully to free itself from its restraints. Its exertions and suffering attract the attention of the four human beings, who begin to generate simple and then increasingly complex polyphonic ritual movements to the sound of voices generated solely by synthetic means. Based on the raw materials and phenomena of the physical world, πTon unites organic movement and vocal expression in their most basic forms of expression. The result is an imposing audiovisual event that takes one on a journey back to the origins of human behavior. (Cod.Act)
