The young design collective Gemeinde-Bau (Katja-Anna Krug, Max Kure, Leo Mühlfeld, Anton Posch) intuitively and exemplarily demonstrates how blockchain technology and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) can be applied for future vision in many different areas, like in a private flat share, for the public use of the museum garden, or as a tool for open discourse.
The exhibition draws on interactive elements and a visual narrative style to promote a new understanding of the design of democratic decision-making processes and to illustrate complex topics like blockchain and DAOs, thus making them tangible. One of the core questions is how digital tools could activate participation in museums—especially in the MAK—and beyond. Visitors are invited to collaboratively develop ideas for decentralized co-creation, try out speculative approaches, and discuss the opportunities as well as challenges of digital tools. For school classes, the exhibition offers an ideal possibility to acquire digital skills and to playfully experience and understand different forms of democratic design.
