During research for the MAK exhibition of the same name—that had to be postponed for a year because of Corona—180 women artists were identified by name. Their production for the Wiener Werkstätte (WW) varied from postcard design to works in all areas of arts and crafts. Their biographies have been updated or created from scratch for the already published exhibition catalog. Up until the exhibition opening in April 2021, and beyond that date, the research findings will be constantly updated.

The holdings of the Metal Collection comprises objects from Europe and North America, dating from the fourteenth century to the present. From the very beginning, there existed a policy of acquiring contemporary works for the collection as well as historical objects. The collection covers diverse areas of the applied arts including small-scale sculpture, cutlery, clocks, jewellery, goldsmiths art, lamps, astronomy devices and electro-plated reproductions.
