PLANET LOVE

Climate Care in the Digital Age
Project Manager: Marlies Wirth, Curator, Digital Culture and MAK Design Collection, in cooperation with Christoph Thun-Hohenstein, General Director, MAK
Curatorial assistant: Antje Prisker; with the participation of Ivana Andrejic-Djukic
Under the motto PLANET LOVE, the VIENNA BIENNALE FOR CHANGE 2021 is dedicated to the biggest challenge of the digital age: Climate Care. PLANET LOVE signals a fundamentally new relationship between humankind and the earth, which aims to leave maximum exploitation of resources behind and proposes a careful use of the earth based on respect and appreciation of its biodiversity. Climate care is a central aspect of PLANET LOVE and goes far beyond efforts to decarbonize our economy and society; it includes the question of how we can build our relationship to the earth on a sustainable foundation and reflects the social dimensions of climate change.

The role of design, art, architecture, and digital technologies in coping with these multi-layered and complex interrelationships is the subject of current research that will be incorporated into the MAK's exhibitions in the context of the VIENNA BIENNALE 2021.
