Four years after the death of Lucie Rie, who was born in Vienna in 1902, the MAK presents some of ther ceramics in the first exhibition devoted to this artist in Austria. Lucie Rie's works, which have been shown in important exhibitions among others in Japan and the United States, are characterized by a very personal style and the utmost subtlety. Her oeuvre is determined by the consistent desire to unite opposites: hardness and fragility, economy and luxury, light and dark tones, simple shapes and sophisticated surface appearance. Her fascinating creations are now finally being adequately presented in her native city.
