Rudi Stanzel's "reformel" is based on a retrospective of films concerning his work. Employing about 15,000 stills, the Austrian artist has assembled a collage the visitors can walk through. Paper as a vehicle of images is transformed into a new and completely autonomous block of works. Serial elements such as strokes, rectangles, graphite bars and photocopies are a recurrent element of Rudi Stanzel's art.

By exploring continuously changing pictorial surfaces since the mid-eighties, Stanzel has come closer to painting, though the emphasis is on the material. His approach opens up an exciting new territory between image and object. Besides the installation specially developed for the MAK Gallery, the exhibition will also present a number of graphite sculptures providing additional accents for the exhibition space.
