Ulrike Lienbacher's works are based on a variety of contrasts: drawings, photographs, and objects create a field of tension, generating haptic impressions that range from the fragile to the extremely sensuous. Since the artist always aims at subtle irritations, the tension within the (exhibition) space is not an aesthetic end in itself. Her models' postures, their practiced gestures, and role plays hint at "externalized disorders;" transforming and de-differentiating the "typical" gesture questions gender attributions.

Elements of Lienbacher's work accentuate each other through formal contrast; the perfection of apparently mass-produced items is set off from the simplicity and charm of drawn lines. The artist's complex systems of reference - consumption, desire, availability, pleasure, and abstention - encounter and generate new mise-en-scènes when going through further transformations.
