EDUCATING CHANGE - Discussion series within the framework of the MAK FUTURE LAB

CANCELLED | What must education achieve in the age of climate change?

Tue, 21.04.2020 7.00 pm

MAK – Museum of Applied Arts

An event in the discussion series EDUCATING CHANGE within the framework of the MAK FUTURE LAB

“Our house is on fire. (…) I want you to panic, to feel the fear I feel every day.”
Greta Thunberg, climate activist, in her speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, 2019

Is there anything we can still teach the next generation, other than that they should do things differently than we did—or is it up to the younger generation to teach us how to do things better? How can we prepare young people for a world that they themselves will have to shape in ways radically more different than we have ever had to? It’s not only our everyday lives, the world of work, and our approach to economic growth that will have to undergo fundamental change. Faced with the climate crisis, how can education reorient itself? How can it make a contribution to change, and is the climate crisis perhaps also an opportunity to develop new forms of education?
