Drawing on historical stage design models, Thomas Demand translates miniatures of theater history into the medium of photography. This MAKplus event invites you not only to explore Demand’s works through their motifs and creative history, but also to take the time to simply look at them. We delve deeper into the series of works created specifically for the MAK and explore the concept of thinking in models, the condensation of space and dramaturgy, and the relationship between past and present. In doing so, we take extra time to experience the exhibition at a slower pace, linger longer before each image, pay attention to our own perceptions, and experience Demand’s photographic dream worlds through a contemplative encounter.
