Opening KATERYNA LYSOVENKO: Borderland

Kateryna Lysovenko (* 1989) studied at the Odesa Grekov Art
Professional College as well as at the National Academy of Fine
Arts and Architecture in Kyiv; she has been living in Austria since 2022.

Winner of the 2025 Münze Österreich Prize awarded by the Austrian Mint in context of the viennacontemporary, the artist understands painting as a social action and a political medium—less as an illustration of events, but much more as a method for discovering and interrogating the world. Her suspenseful imagery is based on observations, permutations, and fragments from daily life. Here painting becomes an instrument for renegotiating visibility and reality. Lysovenko employs the tools of reduction and absence; coloration is interpreted as its own resonant space. What results are images that capture moods—antipodes to propaganda.
