Good poster design occupies that grey zone between art, commerce and communication, or as Jean Carlu nonchalantly put it in the 1920s, “The poster stands in relation to the fine arts as freestyle wrestling does to good manners”. Each year graphic artists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland put themselves to the test of an internationally renowned expert jury. For the third time running, the MAK pays its homage to the 100 best poster designers in 2007 with the show, “100 Best Posters 07. Germany Austria Switzerland”, probably the most important competition for poster design in the German-speaking region. The contest sees itself as a catalyst and a measuring stick all in one, showing its purpose to a wider public by means of this exhibition.

Members of the Jury Gesine Grotian-Steinweg, Berlin; Matthias Wittig, Berlin; Georg Staehelin, Zürich; Sigi Ramoser, Dornbirn; Ralf Zilligen, Düsseldorf

Curator Peter Klinger, MAK Library and Works on Paper Collection
