The exhibition APPLY! features works by school students that were created as part of a cooperative project between schools and the museum. This project, with the motto of Design it! Cook, Eat, Party!, started off with tours through the MAK Collections, talks with designers Monika Singer and Marie Rahm of POLKA, a screening of the film Food Design by Martin Hablesreiter and Sonja Stummerer, a look behind the scenes at the bakery of the Imperial and Royal Court Confectioners Demel, and workshops with folding expert Joan Sallas, activist Raja Schwahn-Reichmann, Dagmar Habeler and Isabel Toccafondi of TORTENHIMMEL, and photographer Michael Haeusle and food stylist Brigitte Duregger. Enthusiastic collaboration between students, teachers and artists gave rise to creations including sketched ideas, photo scenery, photographic documentaries, flip-books, table and fork-objects, plates with greenery and works of festive stage scenery. This project injected a new dynamic into the museums cooperative program with schools, and it provided a space for the development of creative ideas and design-related processes. The participants included students of the Vocational School for Retail and IT Merchandisers, the BORG 3, HLW Mistelbach, and the Youth Workshop of bfi Vienna and GRG 23.
