MAK Works on Paper Room

For almost thirty years, the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) worked together with the well-known Venetian cabinetmaker Anfodillo to realize his designs. In 1999, the MAK managed to purchase, from the cabinetmakers' archives, a number of design drawings - for the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona (built 1956-1964), the Galleria Querini Stampalia (1961-1963), the Tomba Brion (1970-1978) a. o. -, but also some furniture design sketches and wooden models of design details such as, for example, design sketches for a working table for composer Luigi Nono. The MAK show presents, for the first time, plans, design sketches, blueprints, and models from this bulk of materials, complemented with photographs of Scarpa's most important built projects.

The exhibition documents Scarpa's collaboration with the cabinetmaker Saverio Anfodillo and gives a survey of the life's work of one of the outstanding architects of the 20th century.
