“How Many Billboards?” is a public exhibition mounted on Los Angeles billboards that highlights the legacies of California’s conceptually oriented art. The show explores the living history of the trajectory of California’s conceptual art practices, and the remarkable range and diversity of artists it continues to influence. Twenty-one billboards will be commissioned to artists who are critically engaged in their practice and able to contribute a new work that responds to the specificity of the billboard as media.

Participating artists Kenneth Anger, Michael Asher, Jennifer Bornstein, Eileen Cowin, Christina Fernandez, Ken Gonzales Day, Renee Greene, Kira Lynn Harris, John Knight, David Lamelas, Brandon Lattu, Daniel Martinez, Kori Newkirk, Yvonne Rainer, Martha Rosler with Josh Neufeld, Allan Ruppersberg, Allan Sekula, Susan Silton, Kerry Tribe, Jim Welling, and Lauren Woods.
