MAK Furniture Study Collection

Stieg, who died in 1984, was considered one of the most innovative Austrian furniture designers during the late seventies and early eighties. Stieg created attention with his two Vienna exhibitions “Unvollkommen Möbelhaftes” (“Imperfect Furniture”) and “Vorsicht: Polstermöbel!” (“Beware: Upholstered Furniture!”), both of which were seen as a form of intervention in the post-’68 era of massproduced products. The MAK exhibition shows both Stieg’s extraordinary experiments with furniture as well as the high-quality upholstered furniture with which he drew on the long tradition of “fine Viennese upholstery”.
