MAK goes Museum of Applied Data

Permanent Collection VIENNA 1900—Everyday. A Total Work of Art

Which objects move us, fascinate us, or stay with us long after we’ve seen them? The MAK and Vienna-based app Artfluence are exploring this question together with their audience.

From 13 September to 13 October 2026, the MAK will become a museum of applied data: visitors are invited to scan their favorite objects in the permanent collection VIENNA 1900—Everyday. A Total Work of Art using the Artfluence app and become part of a unique museum experiment.

Every scan contributes to a dynamic body of data that, throughout the project, reveals which objects and artworks particularly resonate with visitors. For the first time, this creates a shared perspective on the exhibition: What captures our attention? Which objects fascinate the most people? How do visitors move through an exhibition space?

After their visit, participants receive a personalized analysis in the app and can discover their individual art preferences.

The project culminates in a public presentation of the results on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 7 pm at DIREKTION FÜR ALLE!
