New Tools for Democracy!
Part of democracy is that we can all participate in it. Because democracy only works if we find common ways to work on it, maintain it and actively shape it. This requires commitment, courage, creativity and perhaps also new tools for co-determination. In a tour through the MAK Collection, we will explore the question of what contribution design can make to shaping our democracy and what role digital technologies can play in promoting democratic processes.
As an interactive exhibition in the MAK Gallery, BLOCKCHAIN:UNCHAINED. New Tools for Democracy invites visitors to playfully explore and try out design strategies and new technologies as tools for participation. The young design collective Gemeinde-Bau provides examples of how blockchain technology and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) can be used for visions of the future in very different areas such as a private residential community, for the public use of space in the museum garden and as an instrument for open discourse.
