Fully booked: MAK-it! KATAZOME - Japanese stencil printing on paper

with the artist Anita Bauer

Katazome is a Japanese reserve technique on fabric that is considered to be the forerunner of screen printing and also has parallels to European blue printing. In this traditional technique of kimono fabric production, a special rice paste is printed onto fabric using detailed paper stencils (katagami). Once this reserve paste has dried, the dye can be applied directly to the fabric. In this workshop, you will make your own stencil and work with the katazome technique using brushes and pigments on Japanese paper.
