To coincide with the current exhibition
CHRISTOPH SCHLINGENSIEF. It’s Not My Problem Anymore! (on view through September 13, 2026), Stadtkino Wien presents a screening of
SCHLINGENSIEF – SCREAMING INTO THE SILENCE, followed by a conversation.
With his Heimat films, as well as his actions and interventions in theater, television, opera, and the visual arts, director Christoph Schlingensief shaped Germany’s cultural and political discourse for more than two decades. In her virtuosically edited and highly engaging directorial debut, acclaimed film editor Bettina Böhler captures the extraordinary artist in all his complexity.
The film traces Schlingensief’s remarkable artistic journey: from his early, rebellious filmmaking experiments drenched in fake blood, to his provocative work for the stage in Berlin and Bayreuth, and finally to his final years as a bestselling author, culminating in the invitation to create the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale shortly before his death. Throughout, Schlingensief’s boundless creative energy is as infectious as it is compelling.
