MAK4Family: Kings of Things!

What precisely is design, and what makes products into something special? Bring your own things with you from home—your favorite objects, curiosities, or something you find particularly cool or simply beautiful, be they toys, clothes, electronic gadgets, or household gadgets—and we’ll put them in an exhibition we call “Kings of Things.” We’ll put your chosen objects on pedestals, label them, and make real exhibits out of them. Learn all about creative exhibition work, and perhaps discover unexpected aspects of familiar objects.
Workshop for the whole family (from 4 years)

Special guided tour: a stroll through the history of Austrian product design

In this special guided tour, we plunge into the history of Austrian product design from the Rococo to the present, taking in two important temporary exhibitions running this fall. The ICONIC AUBÖCK exhibition focuses on the stylistically innovative interwar and postwar periods, up to the experimental 1980s, and examines the works of the Auböck workshop through the lens of Surrealism. Inspired by the Bauhaus, Carl Auböck fused local and international influences, creating characteristic Auböck designs in objects ranging from household accessories and tree tables to a wide range of lamp designs. The 100 objects in the AUT NOW exhibition celebrate the variety and innovative strength of Austrian product design from 2000 to 2025. Their functionality, technological innovation, sparing use of resources, and ergonomics—but also their wit, charisma, and emotional appeal—make them role models as regards design quality—whereby supposedly familiar objects may reveal some fascinating surprises.
