Research Project
ART NOUVEAU 2
Art Nouveau Heritage in the Danube Region
In this project the MAK applied itself to one of its core competencies. The project was successfully completed on 31 December 2022.
The EU project Strengthening the cultural identity of the Danube region by building on common heritage of ART NOUVEAU, ARTNOUVEAU2 (1 July 2020 – 31 December 2022) focused on strengthening the cultural identity of the Danube region through the shared heritage of Art Nouveau.
ART NOUVEAU 2 was based on the INTERREG project ART NOUVEAU. Sustainable protection and promotion of Art Nouveau heritage in the Danube Region, which was successfully completed in June 2019. The focus of this project was to carry out the first survey of the existing architectural Art Nouveau heritage of the Danube region from Austria to Romania, including a documentation of the current state of conservation.
After having already established numerous fruitful collaborations between cultural institutions and experts from eight partner countries in the first project, ART NOUVEAU 2 had set itself the goal of further strengthening this professional network and promoting cross-regional networking. The knowledge gained so far was to be further enriched through sound scientific processing and continuous digitization and to be brought closer to a broad audience through close cooperation with art educators and experts from the tourism sector.
This partnership between art education and tourism opened up new shared paths for both sides. Based on expanded research, the professionalization of tourism marketing as well as the enrichment and diversification of the existing mediation offers was achieved.
With its unique Art Nouveau collection, the MAK offers expertise and objects and expands availability of the Art Nouveau heritage to support cross-institutional and cross-regional knowledge transfer. The aim of the ART NOUVEAU 2 project was both to promote the economic growth of the partner regions and to strengthen the regional and transnational cultural identity of all partner countries.
The project “ARTNOUVEAU2” (2020–2022) is co-funded by the European Union funds (ERDF, IPA II), INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme.
