(MAK 2026): With its program, the MAK transcribes history in full awareness of the responsibility and interpretative authority this entails. Including with exhibitions on Otto Muehl, the MAK has contributed to the artist’s narrative and reception. From a present-day perspective, we consider his work critically and contextualizing the crimes committed by Muehl is indispensable for the MAK nowadays. The MAK advocates for a presentation from various perspectives, also taking into account those voices that are and have been affected by violence and abuse of power.

Lower Exhibition Hall
(MAK 1998): Otto Mühl, one of the founders of Viennese Actionism and the founder of the sociosexual utopian project "Kommune Friedrichshof" was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Austrian courts. The exhibition "Otto Mühl 7" shows his journey through this seven-year creative state confinement.
