Enamel was already widely used for ornamenting jewelry and precious commodities in the Classical world. By presenting religious and secular objects and pieces of jewelry in chronological order, the exhibition illustrates various enameling techniques of European, Islamic, and East Asian origins, documenting the spread of the art of enameling and its specific repertory of ornamental forms from the Eastern Mediterranean between the 12th and the 21st centuries.
