START_UP: Designer's New Projects
In the borderland between typography and product design, the Austrian design group Walking-Chair has created a colorful universe of original prototypes which break up the traditional order of things, reducing functionalism to absurdity. Ever since 2002, Fidel Peugeot and Karl Emilio Pircher have, under the Walking-Chair label, shaken up the Viennese design scene; now, they were chosen by Ron Arad, on the occasion of his lecture and the presentation of his Rotator, for a START_UP presentation at the MAK. In the START_UP presentations shown in the new program line design> new strategies, developed by MAK and departure, experimental and innovative positions in the areas of product, furniture and industrial design are made visible and experienceable, with the goal of establishing a new design platform for young designers and ambitious producers in Vienna and of connecting the Austrian creative scene to the international network.
