MAKplus: New Presentation: MAK Permanent Collection Textiles and Carpets

On the occasion of the new presentation, the guided tour invites visitors to discover one of the world's most important textile collections. At last we can see the MAK's Persian and Mamluk carpets again, complemented by selected textile highlights from late antiquity to the present day. The newly designed presentation by Studio Formafantasma opens up fresh perspectives and, for the first time, places the carpets in a broader textile context. Discover materials, patterns, and cultural interconnections spanning centuries.

The tour focuses on the conservation challenges involved in the presentation of textiles, and carpets in particular. Anna Beselin (Conservator and Curator, Museum of Islamic Art, Berlin), Edith Oberhumer (Textile Conservator, MAK), and Lara Steinhäußer (Curator, MAK Textile and Carpet Collection) discuss this topic in depth.
