MAK – Museum of Applied Arts
In three groups, each following a different path, participants will take a walking tour to the Secession, Ringstraße, and a short detour into the 1st district to view Krischanitz interiors that normally are not accessible for viewing. This is a sampling of the places that influenced and occupied architect and designer Adolf Krischanitz throughout his career and private life: visitors can view adaptations, attic conversions and expansions, bespoke interiors, as well as Krischanitz-designed light fixtures and furnishings. The corresponding prototypes and plans, along with his early work, recently were taken up in the MAK Collection as part of the Missing Link group.

BIOGRAPHY
Toward the end of his studies at the Vienna University of Technology, in 1970 Adolf Krischanitz (*1946 in Schwarzach/Pongau) together with Angela Hareiter and Otto Kapfinger founded the architecture group Missing Link. In 1979 he was one of the founders of UM_BAU, the journal of the Austrian Society for Architecture; whose chair he became in 1982. As member and ultimately president of the Vienna Secession (1991–1995), he was responsible for the design and organization of numerous contemporary arts exhibitions. He served as a guest professor at the Technical University of Munich in 1989, as well as at summer academies in Karlsruhe (1990), Naples (1994/95), and Vienna (1996). From 1992 to 2011, he was a professor of Design and Urban Renewal at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Beginning in 1979, Krischanitz worked as a freelance architect with studios in Vienna, Berlin, and Zurich. The items from his extensive oeuvre are being handed over to the Az W – Architekturzentrum Wien, the MAK, the Archives of Contemporary Arts in Krems, and the gta Archive at ETH Zurich.

TIP
In honor of his 80th birthday, the institutions that recently received his premature legacy have organized a diverse program on and for Adolf Krischanitz in greater Vienna, while in Switzerland a special publication highlights his impact there.
