The 150th birthday of Josef Hoffmann will be celebrated on 15 December. On this occasion, the three curators of the exhibition JOSEF HOFFMANN. Progress Through Beauty, Matthias Boeckl, Rainald Franz, and Christian Witt-Dörring, are meeting for a panel discussion hosted by Nina Schedlmayer.
The new perspective on Josef Hoffmann, which the curators have developed for themselves during the preparatory work for the exhibition over a period of in the meantime two years, should be debated in the context of the discussion. In 20 chapters and with more than 800 exhibits, JOSEF HOFFMANN. Progress Through Beauty should fully illuminate the 60-year career of the architect, designer, teacher, organizer of exhibitions, and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte. The opening has been postponed for one year until December 2021 due to the pandemic.
The panel discussion, to be broadcast as a livestream on 15 December, will already provide initial insights into the major project. The exhibition catalog, a manual on Hoffmann’s work, should appear in spring 2021 and will examine his most important buildings, exhibitions, interiors, designs, and products in 40 essays and represent the multi-mediality and the wide-ranging international reception of Hoffmann’s artistic vision based on the latest research.
