MAK Center Los Angeles
The MAK Center, L. A., presented the second part of the new Richard Prince series of photographs which completed the exhibition "4 x 4" shown in Vienna. "Upstate" offered an apparently random selection of everyday pictures that reveal the stifling awkwardness of our ordinary lives and emphasize Prince's unbroken interest in recurring mundane motifs. "I lived in New York for twentyfive years. My whole adult life.

I moved up-state three years ago. Instead of looking at things and people in magazines, I started looking at things and people outside of magazines. Sometimes I take their picture. Sometimes when they party (picture), sometimes when they're dancing (picture), always on their motorcycles (picture). Mostly, I take a picture of what's in their yard." (Richard Prince)
