Michael BEROLZHEIMER

Dr. Michael Berolzheimer was persecuted as a Jew in the National Socialist German Reich and consequently fled to the USA in 1938 leaving his property behind. His collection of drawings was compulsorily placed at the art auction house Adolf Weinmüller in Munich and auctioned on 9 and 10 March 1939. While a drawing by Giovanni da Udine can be found in the auction catalogue it was not auctioned off. It was passed on to the Viennese branch of Weinmüller where it was purchased by the MAK in November 1939. The digitalization of the annotated catalogues of the auction house Weinmüller found in 2013 made it possible to identify the paper at the MAK as a drawing from the Berolzheimer collection.
