MAK Permanent Collection Art Nouveau Art Déco

The mosaic frieze in the dining room of Josef Hoffmann’s Stoclet Palace in Brussels ranks among the outstanding achievements in Jugendstil wall decoration and is one of Klimt’s major works. With its exhibition THE UNKNOWN IN THE KNOWN, the MAK – in possession of the preliminary studies and work drawings – now offers the most comprehensive presentation of this piece of interior decoration to date. It also confronts the “Fulfilment” from a private collection with the original in the MAK so that the long discussion about the two works can be continued on the basis of direct comparison.
