A cooperation of MAK and sound:frame
sound:frame, the Viennese Festival for Audiovisual Expressions, has been synonymous with intercreativity and bringing together international artists and theoreticians from such disciplines as visual art, media art, architecture, design, and music.
Under the title «A MATTER OF » sound:frame places the practices of posing questions and calling into question front and center. The festival focuses on reflection processes within the development of audiovisual formats, the audiovisual work of art and its reception, and on the term audiovisual art itself.
Taking its title, If this is the Answer, what is the Question? as a point of departure, the exhibition renders tangible the basic qualities of audiovisual art. In a curatorial dialog with eight artists, Eva Fischer and Gerald Moser seek out the essence of audiovisual art. Within the exhibition format an assembly system for the central features of this relatively new art form thus becomes manifest.
The exhibition focuses on the broad spectrum of the interplay of visual and sonic impressions and the visual and auditory perception process. The presented works all deal with such qualities as immersion, non-linear narration, projected color, the temporal and spatial expansion of sound and light, and sampling and remixing.
Curators Eva Fischer, Gerald Moser
Artists Karin Fisslthaler, Rainer Kohlberger, Andreas Koller, Lampenschirm - Nuors////02 - Kohlmayr Lutter Knapp, LIA, Veronika Mayer & Gerald Moser & Conny Zenk, Sixtus Preiss, Benjamin Tomasi
