International Exhibition

In 1873, the Austrian Museum of Arts and Industry (today's MAK) purchased 61 folios from the important Mughal "Hamza Nama" manuscript. Of the approximately one hundred extant folios of this heroic epic illustrated with Indo-Persian miniature paintings by artists from the court workshop of Akhbar the Great (ruled 1556-1605), the MAK possesses those of the highest quality.

In cooperation with the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, D. C., the MAK presented 28 of these miniatures which were elaborately restored for the occasion in a traveling exhibition together with examples from other international collections.
